Solar Panels Coming Soon to Bluegrass

Solar Panels Coming Soon to Bluegrass

Bluegrass is about to get greener. First up is a 48-panel solar array, being installed by Solar Energy Solutions on the grassy embankment that fronts our parking lot and office. The panels will face Nandino Boulevard and remind people who pass by that solar is a viable, renewable energy source for commercial buildings.  The array will supply 8 to 9 percent of our electric energy, which is significant since those monthly bills here run $8,000-$9,000. The project also qualifies for a tax credit. In time, we might add another 48-panel array.

Near the solar array, we plan to plant a pollinator garden of bee balm, sunflowers, and other flowers to attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. We might add some tables and chairs, so our staff can watch nature in motion as they eat lunch or take a break. These projects are part of our ongoing mission to be as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible and serve as a role model for others. If you’re interested in solar energy or pollinator gardens, give us a year and we’ll share what we’ve learned.
